the first snow...

last night it began, on a cold and windy night...the first flakes of snow appearing on the sky. there is always talk that 'today is the day', but you really never know if it will happen until you see those first snow flakes...

and then the alarm went off...which is one of us calling for everyone to come see...as we huddled around the window we are reminded, again, to slow down and take in the miracle of nature.
the morning is the most magical of all...for throughout the night the snow flakes have created their white carpet over my small town... school is delayed, (then canceled as i'm writing this), work will come eventually for everyone, for we all lag on mornings like these, and things just are naturally slowed down.
i will do what i always do on the first day of snow...pull out the rest of the winter blankets, check the coats making sure they fit, locate mittens, gloves and hats and hang them in the hall... and cook a pot of tortilla soup....and hopefully play in the snow today if the wind dies down...
